The Chicago Fire has reacquired Costa Rican defender Gonzalo Segares, the club announced Friday.
Segares began his pro career with the Fire in 2005. After playing 108 games for the Fire, he left Chicago for Greek Cypriot club Apollon Limassol after the 2009 season.
“We are excited to have Gonzalo rejoin the Chicago Fire,” Fire technical director Frank Klopas said in a statement. “Gonzalo is a dynamic and talented player who will make a great addition to the club.”
Segares was used as an outside marking back in the past, but Klopas told reporters that it’s possible he could be used in the middle this time around.
