Toronto FC is too big to fail.
That’s the message the club sent on Tuesday, following a weekend home loss to bottom-feeding D.C. United that apparently was the final straw. On Tuesday, TFC (7-10-7) announced the firing of head coach Preki Radosavljevic and general manager Mo Johnston.
Preki (right) joined the club last November but Johnston has been there from the beginning, and his departure signals a new beginning for a franchise that has been so well supported but which has failed to deliver on the field.
Assistant coach Nick Dasovic, a former midfielder who was a regular for the Canadian national team, Scottish club St. Johnstone and the Vancouver Whitecaps, will serve as interim coach. Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment executive VP and COO Tom Anselmi, who delivered the news to the media on Tuesday, said the club would begin the “real thorough search” for a permanent coach.
