Less than 24 hours after touching down in South Africa, U.S. national team coach Bob Bradley and his staff can officially begin hashing out a concrete game plan for their World Cup opener on June 12 against England, as Three Lions manager Fabio Capello announced his 23-man squad for South Africa.
The Italian coach admitted he already had his 23 players in mind before England’s uninspiring 2-1 victory over Japan on Sunday, which came courtesy of a pair of second-half own goals. On Tuesday, Capello sent home seven players, the biggest surprise being Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, who four years ago was a shock inclusion when then-coach Sven-Göran Eriksson included the then-17 year old on England’s 2006 team.
