The composition of the roster will depend heavily on the results of the MLS Cup quarterfinals, with players on the four eliminated teams jumping to the front of Bob Bradley’s Rolodex. Those on the losing semifinalists may get a call as well, although the turnaround for the very long trip to Cape Town may be too tight.

So what are the San Jose Earthquakes’ chances of advancing to the final? Not great, which should intrigue a coach now desperate for a frontrunner who can finish. Chris Wondolowski, whose Wednesday hat trick lifted his season goal total to 17, has proven his worth in MLS and is yearning for a shot with the national team.
