For a while Sunday, it looked like Inter Milan’s stranglehold on the Scudetto was in severe jeopardy on the final matchday of the Serie A season.
Inter’s game at Siena and second-place Roma’s match with Chievo kicked off at the same time. And midway through the games Roma had technically pulled in front of Inter in the table as it led 2-0, while the Nerazzuri remained locked in a scoreless draw against already-relegated Siena.
But in the 57th minute Diego Milito rode to Inter’s rescue, running onto a ball from captain Javier Zanetti and beating the Siena keeper for a 1-0 lead. The one goal proved to be enough as Inter held on to claim their fifth straight Serie A crown.
