jay demerit vancouver whitecapsU.S. national team defender Jay DeMerit, who’s been without a club since leaving England’s Watford prior to the World Cup, is negotiating a contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps, according to a report in The Province. The Whitecaps currently play in the U.S. Soccer Federation’s Division 2 league and will join MLS next year.

Two weeks ago, DeMerit was supposed to be headed to Wolfsburg of the German Bundesliga. That obviously hasn’t materialized, and DeMerit has said he would consider MLS.

There remains “considerable distance to bridge,” in the negotiations, however, according to the British Columbia paper.
