Veteran defender Jimmy Conrad single-handedly set back the U.S. national team’s World Cup preparation work on Saturday night, drawing two pointless yellow cards in the first 18 minutes against Honduras and limiting the Americans’ ability to gauge the progress of certain players.
Playing with 10, the U.S. succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. More importantly, coach Bob Bradley lost a valuable opportunity to test players like Robbie Findley, Jeff Cunningham, Sacha Kljestan, Robbie Rogers and others as worthwhile attacking options in South Africa.
