fa cup jonathan spector west ham englandJonathan Spector has given West Ham fans facing the excruciating prospect of relegation something to be happy about. The English Premier League’s last place club is through to the semifinals of the League Cup, and now the fourth round of the FA Cup, thanks to the exploits of the American utility man.

Spector scored his third goal of the season on Saturday, and it was the game winner as the Hammers ousted second-division Barnsley, 2-0, from the FA Cup’s third round.

His other two goals came in that astonishing League Cup upset of Manchester United in late November. They were the first of his pro career and led to three consecutive Premier League starts.

The latest strike certainly could result in more minutes at Upton Park, but perhaps more importantly, it has proven his versatility (he scored all three as a midfielder) and may raise both his profile and value during this January transfer window.
