One of the blanket criticisms lobbed at modern day athletes is their general apathy toward any social causes.
This isn’t something you say about American soccer player Jozy Altidore. The on-loan forward at England’s Hull City is originally from New Jersey, but both of his parents immigrated from Haiti to the United States.
Since news broke on Tuesday of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the 20-year-old has actively been soliciting donations via his Twitter page, as well as getting the word out on various major news outlets like ESPN and CNN.
