mls playoffs red bulls earthquakes wondolowskiWhen you stop Chris Wondolowski, you stop the San Jose Earthquakes.

The 27-year-old forward is the favorite to win the Major League Soccer MVP award because he almost single-handedly lifted San Jose to the MLS playoffs for the first time in five years.

No member of the Earthquakes other than Wondo scored a goal in the last nine games of the regular season. He had 10 during that span, and the club earned the eighth and final berth and a date with the New York Red Bulls.

On Saturday night in San Jose, those Red Bulls shut Wondolowski down, got a goal from midfielder Joel Lindpere and secured a 1-0 win that leaves them in excellent position to advance to the Eastern Conference final.
