Real Madrid seem to operate in a different plane of reality than just about every professional sports team on the planet.
When Florentino Perez re-assumed the club’s presidency last summer he promised the moon and brought in the stars, spending major money on a haul that included Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema.
However all those stars failed to yield a trophy in 2009-10 and Wednesday manager Manuel Pellegrini stepped down, paving the way for “The Special One” — Jose Mourinho — to come to the Bernabeu fresh off winning the Champions League with Inter Milan.
