The Portland Timbers unveiled their new kits during a live event Thursday.

Alaska Airlines will serve as the uniform sponsors — with the airline being a company that’s actually based in Seattle, as one local writer was quick to point out (let the Timbers-Sounders Northwest rivalry commence).

The kits themselves feature the classic, well-designed axe emblem. The primary kits are in “ponderosa green” and pay homage to the club’s rich history (including some time spent in the NASL), while the alternate red jersey is a tribute to Portland being the Rose City.

Portland will take the pitch in its debut MLS season in 2011. Vancouver Whitecaps FC, another regional side, will make their MLS debut in 2011 as well.

(See more photos of the uniforms and the event itself on the Timbers’ Facebook page.)
