Less than 24 hours after Lionel Messi got the soccer world buzzing with his amazing four-goal display for Barcelona against Arsenal in the Champions League, another mega-headline emerged with Wayne Rooney working his way back into the Manchester United starting lineup for Wednesday’s game against Bayern Munich.
While Rooney’s shock return was the early and pregame headline, it was the Bavarians that walked out of Old Trafford stealing all the thunder thanks to an incredible display of skill from Dutch winger Arjen Robben.
Robben’s stunning left-footed volley in the 74th minute pulled Bayern Munich level on aggregate over the two-legged affair 4-4. It was also the crucial second away goal of the match Wednesday, which pushed them into the semifinals despite losing the second leg 3-2.
