In a summer transfer window that saw mega stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka on the move, few, if anyone outside of Northern Italy paid much attention to Inter Milan prying away Bayern Munich captain Lucio to play in the center of its defense.
Saturday, in the UEFA Champions League final, Lucio came back to haunt his former team, as Inter thoroughly dominated Bayern 2-0 at the Bernabeu.
While Diego Milito and his two goals will certainly make the headlines, make no mistake it was Inter Milan’s nearly impervious defense that ensured the club won its first European Cup since 1965.
