Landon Donovan quickened a few pulses stateside when he implied following his Goodison Park debut on Saturday that he might be tempted to extend his loan with Everton beyond the agreed-upon 10-week period. The ovation as he exited Everton’s 2-0 dismantling of Manchester City clearly quickened his own.
“If I look back after 10 weeks and say I really want to stay then maybe I can make that happen,” he told the Liverpool Echo, leaving everyone to wonder whether it was possible for Donovan to pull the same bait-and-switch move for which he ripped David Beckham last year. Everyone, that is, except Los Angeles Galaxy coach Bruce Arena, who fully expects his captain to be in uniform on March 27 against New England.
