Bob Bradley’s first game since signing his second four-year contract to coach the U.S. national team included fresh ideas and fresh faces, signs both promising and troubling, and ended with a fitting scoreline.
Goals from Jozy Altidore and Oguchi Onyewu, two players struggling to make an impact with their clubs in Europe, were enough to give the U.S. a 2-2 tie against a skillful Polish side in an entertaining exhibition at Soldier Field.
Bradley gave Schalke 04 midfielder Jermaine Jones his long-awaited debut, and the German-born son of an American serviceman didn’t disappoint, setting up Altidore’s first-half goal. But Jones’ second-half turnover led to Poland’s equalizer, and summed up an evening during which several players had moments to remember and moments to forget.
