The USA is ranked number 14 in the world, and they are becoming better and better. They have only gotten better in the last ten years, and I am confident that we are going to win in the near future. Just because the USA isn’t a soccer nation doesn’t mean that we don’t have some serious talent, and that talent has always been under rated because the country doesn’t have a good professional soccer league and because it’s not popular. By the way, Howard is one of the best goalies in the world, and extremely under rated. I always root for Italy first and the USA second, but after today’s game that’s starting to change.

Today was an absolutely great game (btw it was 2-0) but honestly they are still a little far off from winning the world cup. This tournament features only eight teams and is leaving out huge soccer countries such as Argentina, Germany, England, Netherlands, Portugal and even some that are starting to gain talent like Russia, Turkey and Uruguay. I give it at least another 15 years before we are World Cup contenders but of course you never know. (and although I said the same thing against Spain to myself 2 days ago there is no way in hell they are getting past Kaka and Brazil unless we hit some good counter-attacks).

sorry im NOT trying to be mean…but seriously USA got lucky…like i said before they had great plays and passes…but no they are not ready to win the 2010 World Cup…easy they need a few more years to be able to win. They have great veteran competitors they will face in 2010…BRAZIL, ITALY, FRANCE, ARGENTINA, SPAIN (even though lost today, but honestly u have to admit they didnt play the best, so USA won against a BAD Spain team) and PORTUGAL…and many more….sorry its a fact…lol ask anyone who has analyzed the world of soccer for years..lol but hey i do have to admit USA is learning and i know that they can one day be a great team…. =)

Easy now. I’m a big football fan in the US. But our national team is not as strong as other countries. Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Italy, England, France, Portugal, etc, etc, etc. I think we can compete, but to say we have a real shot at winning, I don’t know. If we were to make it to knockout stage, anything is possible but that’s a big if. For now, enjoy the ride and let’s see what happens.
I hope we get the 2018 bid to host the World Cup. Then we may be in a position to win it on our soil and hopefully have home crowd backing us.

not as great as italy, france, holland, brazil, you know those countries that have like one sport and its soccer and their athletes came out of their mothers womb juggling a ball :p

Slim to none.
So now that you beat Spain you have a high chance? Don’t get ahead of yourself. Historically, the United States has done basically nothing in international competitions.

Yikes i know the beat Spain but the shouldn’t have even been there, Italy should have but luckily for the USA FIFA has a bad tie breaker

All the teams have almost the same chance. They just pick the best players out of the entire country.

we have as good a chance as almost any other team.
it will totally be dependent on what teams will be in our group.
