    im guessing its cuz Akon is from Africa, so Blatter gave him the opportunity to make a song that will reflect the African people.

    Well, I can see why they would consider and ask a musician like him to be involved in such a big project. World Cup being held in the continent of Africa, and Akon coming from Senegal… eh, aiming for some kind of “representation” of the country/continent. Plus, Hip Hop artist has never been done for ( I believe). Since he is someone who is popular in that scene, then kinda obvious whyd they would pick him.
